The Unfortunate Campout

There were these 3 kids. Cody, Matt and Anthony (Tony). They were the best of friends growing up and never did anything fun nor adventurous without each other. They weren't the most popular kids in school but they were well known and people knew who they were for being such good friends towards each other. They laughed, lived life to the fullest, and didn't give a shit about anything. They were full of excitement and lacked worries and consequences. Well their carelessness and immaturity caught up to them.

One summer evening Cody, Matt, and Tony were doing the "usual" for a small group of teenage boys for any sleep over; playing cards, guzzling Mt. Dew one can after the other, telling the most vulgar perverted jokes, chowing down on junk food, trying to swallow the Dew and food down fast as possible as soon as they took another bite so they wouldn't spew it up from laughing too hard. The laughing and joking got quieter and quieter as the night went on. As they were getting ready for bed Matt and Tony jumped by Cody's yelling. "Hey guys! We should go camping this weekend" Cody exclaimed. Matt and Tony nodded out of excitement. "Hell yeah we should! Damn Cody! What a great idea!" Tony responded. They all 3 laid in their sleeping bags and began planning for their camping trip. None of them were prepared for what the future had instore for them.





When morning came Cody and Matt woke up and they noticed Tony was already up. They followed the typing noise from the computer room and there was Tony on the computer looking up the latest camping equipment from Cabella's and the website of American Fork Canyon's Camp Sites. Matt and Cody always poked fun at Tony for being so obsessed with shopping, but Tony didn't think anything of their teasing; he just knew he would be better off with the new rather than with the old. After a couple hours writing down a list of things to buy and planning some more for the big trip they decided to take a break and fixed something to eat. As they were eating the doorbell rang.

It was Cody's mom. She was pissed off at Cody for spending the night without permission. Tony for being such a "fast talker" stepped into the conversation. "Mrs. Vanderbilt, it wasn't Cody's fault. He helped me with my homework and after it was finished; I talked to him about how hurt I was when Lauren Christianson dumped me and then Matt came over because we had a sleep over planned and then we decided to watch a movie", Tony quickly said. Matt and Cody's faces were red as can be from trying so hard not to laugh but Tony was such a bullshitter all his life his face was straight as an arrow. Cody's mom quickly replied, "What movie did you watch??" Tony panicked for a quick second and said "Tommy Boy" (trying to remember what was in the VHS slot of the dvd/vcr combo). Somehow Tony knew Mrs. V would look and she did.. and luckily she did look in the VHS part if she hadn't then the DVD player would open with "Girls Gone Wild" inside and Cody's mom would stop letting him hang out with Tony and Matt and she would call all the parents and Tony and Matt would be in trouble and Cody would be in even bigger trouble then he already was. Cody's mom being naive as she was believed Tony's story and gave Cody a warning and just to let her know if he wasn't going to be home for supper. After the 20 minutes of Cody's mom's interrogation they went back doing what they were before.. planning for the cam pout.

The next day Tony spent hours taking his girlfriend Lauren shopping and pampering her and just trying to make up for neglecting her. She wouldn't be happy because Tony wouldn't let her to go on this camping trip that he was so excited for. No matter what she did or said his foot was down and he didn't cave in. When they were at Tony's mom's playing "Try to guess what I am thinking" Matt and Cody came over and Lauren asked all 3 of us if she could go with us. Matt and Cody looked at eachother and laughed. "Yeah right, Tony will be in your tent painting your toenails while you vent about work and how you don't want to graduate next year because you love school so much", Matt said. Tony then had everyone shut up and listen as he turned up the volume on the tv.

The news anchor went on about a serial killer escaping from the mental institution a couple miles away from where they've planned their trip. "See! Now no one is going camping." Lauren shouted. Tony had a quick response to Lauren's outburst. "No! The campout is still on" Everyone looked at each other puzzled and then Tony went to his room and when he came back he was carrying his twelve guage shotgun. He let the gang know if someone is going to mess with them then they will be scared away and if it was the serial killer then he would be shot and they all would get an award. Everyone cheered. Lauren left to get some beauty sleep just moments after so she can be refreshed and looking her best for cheerleading tryouts. When she was leaving she asked again if she could go then Tony finally told her he would think about. She kissed him goodnight and out the door she went. "You're not really going to let her come are you?" Matt asked. Tony replied, "Pfft! Yeah right! She isn't coming but I will think about it just because I said I would." Matt and Cody left early to get up in the morning to get an early start on their chores so they could go with Tony to the store. Tony never had any chores because he would do his chores during the night and then mow his lawn while his family was at church on Sunday and if he had something going on in the morning he would pull an all nighter then fall asleep until he had something else to do like being with Lauren or his 2 best friends.

When Matt and Cody met up with Tony at Walmart to get the groceries Tony just looked like crap. He hasn't slept at all due to doing his chores through the night and then sitting in and watching Lauren's cheer leader try outs in the morning. "Let's go ahead and get my camping gear from Cabella's before they close and we can come back here." Tony tiringly asked. They nodded and Tony quickly said if I drive I am going to doze off. Matt drove the 2 over to Cabella's. The whole time they were messing with Tony while he was sleeping. Taking pictures with their camera phones at stop lights when they did these embarrassing poses while he was sleeping. They even drew on Tony's face with a marker. When they got to Cabella's Tony woke up and was refreshed. While walking in the store everyone was staring at Tony like they never seen a person before. Once they walked by the mirror over by the clothing department Tony got a glimpse of his face. "Wow!" Tony said. He let Matt and Cody know that they would get payback for doing this great prank. Tony had everything he needed and then bought everything and then they went to Walmart. Tony made sure he would stay awake this time.

After putting the food in the fridge and the ice in the freezer Tony called up Lauren to come over so he can explain to her that she isn't coming to the camp out. When she arrived Tony sent Matt and Cody in his room to do anythign from playing video games to watching movies.. Just as long they weren't in the room. Lauren started to cry and then out came matt and Cody when the yelling started to see what the commotion was all about. They came out just in time to see Lauren yell at Tony and to see her throw the promise ring onto the floor and ran to her car. Cody and Matt were puzzled and Tony just let it roll off his shoulders because he was confident he would get her back.

The next day they drove out to the camp site. There were bugs flying around and the grass was 3 feet tall and they were all excited to be away from the noisiness of the world. They built a big fire and they let it burn down where it was just about right to cook the hotdogs. They had hotdogs buns, Mt. Dew, potato chips, and even stuff to make smores. They knew how to eat in the wilderness. When night fell Tony didn't really talk much, most of his attention was towards the texts from Lauren. As the texts had stopped Tony looked up at the 2 and asked "Hey, How about some ghost stories?" The two boys were so stoked because Tony had the largest imagination out of the gang. After hearing so many, the boys were getting a little spooked and even was Tony.

When they got into the tent they were laughing and telling jokes. They got really quiet all of a sudden when they heard leaves crunching and sticks and twigs breaking in a pattern as if someone was walking in the woods. The crunching was very soft and seemed distant and they kept getting louder and louder as the noise got closer and closer. Tony reached for his gun and unzipped the tent door and leaped out into the darkness. They boys in the tent heard yelling then all of a sudden BOOM! The gunshot. Tony ran back and said I think I shot the serial killer! They all 3 went back to the place where Tony shot someone and there was a body on the ground.. Then when the flashlight had shined on the victim.. It turned out to be Lauren.

She was bleeding from the stomach and coughing. Tony quickly dropped to his knees in tears with Lauren's head in his lap. Matt and Cody began crying and hugging eachother. Cody pulled out his cellphone and started dialing his mom's cell.. Right before he was finshed dialing the 7 digits Lauren and Tony looked up and yelled HAHA!!!!! Tony explained to the other boys he shot in the air and that it was fake blood on Lauren's shirt. Tony had let her come on the trip for making the squad. Tony explained to Lauren at the campfire about the pranks Cody and Matt pulled on him. So what better way to get them back than at the camp out. When the boys left Tony and Lauren alone so they can talk. Tony helped Lauren pitch up her tent after they were finished pitching the tent and talking Tony went back in his tent.. Minutes after there was Lauren calling for Tony. "Come here Lauren, What do you need?" Tony yelled. She came over and opened up the tent. Tony asked "What is it Lauren?" Lauren just shined the flashlight over to her hand and there was a bottle of Nail polish and then she shined the flashlight down at her feet and she was barefoot in flipflops. Tony rolled his eyes as he told the others that he was going to sleep in her tent.

When morning came tony woke up to the sun baring down on the tent and when he rolled over onto his back to look at the cieling. He saw the word "Boo" written to what it appeared to be blood. He quickly stared at Lauren and shook her.. She woke up and assured him it was just Cody and Matt pulling a prank on them. When they got out of the tent to congratulate the boys on the prank the tent was torn up in shreds with blood all over and the poles breaking through the nylon. Tony and Lauren panicked and ran around all morning looking for them. When they couldn't find them Tony and Lauren discussed how it could of been the fake blood and they did that to the tent for affect. They finally sat down by the coldering campfire to collect their thoughts. Tony sat on the camping chair as Lauren sat in his lap. They both felt dripping on to their arms.

When They looked up to look at the morning dew drip off the leaves they saw Cody and Matt's bodies hanging from the tree above them and it was their blood dripping onto Tony and Lauren. Tony called the police right away and they got their a half an hour after the call. The shotgun was still in the tent Tony ran back to get it but it wasn't there. The police showed up and the couple were brought in for interrogation. After hours of crying and questioning Tony and Lauren were free to go home. The boys were burried next to eachother. The couple went to both of their viewings and funerals. Tony spoke at both of their services.

After high school and when the couple got into college. They got married and never talked about the camping trip that they went on nor went on another camping trip.




On the news it said there have been several murders at camp sites. I think the last one I heard was the one that YOU go to... ;-)
